Yesterday, we took Bo to see the ENT doctor. He was referred by our pediatrician because of all the ear infections we have encountered lately. The doctor said you are a candidate for tubes if you have either had 5 ear infections in the past year or 4 in the past 6 months. Bo has had 4 in the past 6 months.
He took a peek in his ears and noticed a little build up right now which is not a good sign in the middle of summer. He said normally they will be clean in the summer especially since he has not had an infection in the past 2 weeks.
With all of this, he recommended us getting tubes put in. We scheduled the surgery (out-patient) for Monday July 19th. They said he can do the surgery no matter what, even if he has a current ear infection. It is a pretty simple procedure and takes about 10-15 minutes. He will be put under anesthesia but should be recovered by the next day. He even said he could go swimming almost immediately.
We have heard nothing but good things about the tubes especially since how miserable Bo and his parents are whenever he has an ear infection. If this can put an end to these, this should make life easier for all of us this winter when baby Woodster #2 comes.
