Legoland

For spring break, we took Bo (and Emmy) to Legoland California to go to the amusement park and stay at the Legoland Hotel. He has been talking about it for about a year since he saw a video on Youtube - EvanTube. We surprised him when we picked him up from school on Friday and went to the airport to fly out that night. This is a picture of him with his lego guy and lego jammies ready to board the flight to LA.

It was a 4 hour flight there so we landed about 9pm Pacific time. It took about another hour to get our luggage and rental car. Below is the picture of the kids on the shuttle to get our rental car. Then we had a little over an hour drive south towards Carlsbad near San Diego. We stayed at a hotel about 5mins from Legoland. By the time we got to the hotel it was midnight which was 2am Central time. It was a long trip but luckily the kids slept the whole car ride.
In the morning, the kids were fired up. I think Bo woke up before it was light out. Here is a video of them singing the Lego song from the Lego movie called "Everything is awesome". Notice they are wearing their Lego shirts too that Mommy got for them for this special trip.

We arrived at the hotel right at 9am so we couldn't check into our Lego room until later in the afternoon. Luckily, the park opened at 9am for hotel guests so we headed straight to the park. Here is a picture at the entrance to the park on that first day.
Emmy took a picture by the Pirate lego guy.
The park was pretty big. It was really like a Six Flags but everything was Lego themed and looked like they were built out of legos. It is really designed for Elementary school and younger kids so it was perfect. Bo was still a little scared to ride the Dinosaur roller coaster but Emmy rode it right away. We did get Bo to ride it the 2nd day but it took some coercing. There was a Lego car ride for little ones so here is a picture of Bo driving and video of both of them. Emmy had a little trouble steering (over compensating on her turns).

After the car ride, they gave the kids a license so this is a picture of Bo's reaction to receiving his license.
The lines at the park weren't too long at all so that was a relief to the kids. However when there was a little bit of a wait, they had little sections for the kids to go play with Legos while the parents waited in line. This made things go by faster for the kids. Here is a picture of Daddy and Bo waiting in line. Bo was very excited for living his dream trip to Legoland.
If you ask Bo what his favorite part of the trip was and also the part he looked forward to the most, he will say the treasure chest. All the rooms at the Lego hotel were themed. We had to stay in the Pirate themed room. As part of that, they had a treasure chest in your room with a combination lock on it. When you checked in, they gave you 4 clues you had to find throughout the hotel which turned out to be the combination on the lock. Bo loved this. After the day in the park, we were able to check into our room and do the hunt. This is a picture of him opening it after doing all the clues. There is a monkey made of legos on top of the chest which of course Emmy decorated with other colorful legos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6M22qH3fMM
Legoland was really split into two parks, the amusement park and then a water park. On the second day, we spent a little more time doing the water stuff. It was in the upper 70s while we were there but the water was still cold so we didn't do any of the big slides. Here is Grammie and the two kids going down the log flume.
Here is Bo going down the slide and his reaction. They also had a pool at the hotel that wasn't too bad since it was heated to 81 degrees so they said. We all went in it both days we were there. They had lego blocks in the pool also that the kids (and adults) could build with. Mommy of course could order drinks and food by the pool too so she didn't mind.
Emmy enjoyed the Duplo Village (which is the bigger legos). She wanted to build a house as big as her so Daddy helped her at first. After a while some other kids came over to help. We called them her subcontractors. As she was doing that, another group of older kids started building one close by so she was racing them to see who could get theirs higher.

This is a picture of her at the end showing that it was as tall as she was. She was very proud of her fort. She worked on it for almost an hour.

They also had two Lego themed restaurants at the hotel that we ate in. The kids liked this because they also gave you legos at your table to build with. This is a video of them building while we waited for our food. Also, they were chanting "legos in the house, Whoop! Whoop!" and "Bo is in the house Whoop! Whoop!" "Emmy is in the house Whoop! Whoop!"

Another part of the hotel that Bo liked was at night they did some kid games. Every day they had a building contest with a different them. The one night Bo entered, it was to build a Mummy Tomb. This is a video Mommy took of Bo going up to present his. There were 30 kids who entered so they each had to go up in front of them to present what they built, give it a name, and explain something about it.

He said something like it was a tomb for a mummy but a real mummy wasn't in it. He fell down the hole and said "ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh" as he fell. The pirate host made him repeat that part because he liked what the mummy said when he fell.

They gave out a prize to the top builder. Then all the kids put their creations on the shelf in the front of the lobby for everyone to see. Bo was very excited to put his on the shelf.

After that, they did a gesture/improv game and played the limbo with some silly dancing. Bo really enjoyed all of this. It made his day because he actually was able to do everything that he saw Evan do on youtube when he came there.

He was really sad the next morning when we left. He said he was going to cry because he was so sad. To help himself from not being so sad, he said he needed to take a bunch of pictures of the hotel with his Ipad to remind him of it whenever he felt sad.
