Emmy had two check-ups this week. On Wednesday, we went to the pediatric allergist that we went to one year ago. He asked us a bunch of questions on how she was doing and we told her that we have avoided eggs, fish, and peanuts (really all nuts). The past few months we have been given her things with baked eggs like cup cakes, pancakes, etc. She doesn't seem to break out when given these things but he warned us to be careful and still avoid them for the most part. Since she still is so little, he really can't do a blood test for things. The blood test is the more certain way you can check things. He did do a skin "prick" test for peanuts and she came back a +4 which is the highest you can get so it looks like she is really allergic to peanuts. But again he said you won't know for certain until the blood test. We are to come back in about 15 months when Emmy turns 3 and then do blood tests for all of those things.
He did say she is following the allergy march that statistically most kids follow. It starts with eczema, milk, eggs, peanuts, this group of foods, then into asthma. He doesn't paint a pleasant picture but he just wants to lay out the possibilities. As long as we stay aware and make sure everywhere she goes they are aware then it is definitely manageable. We have another prescription for an epipen and should carry it around wherever Emmy goes.
The other checkup was with the Pediatric Ophthalmologist that did her surgery on Monday. He said everything looks good. We have some antibiotic drops to put in there 2-3 times a day plus some cream to put on the cuts when she goes to bed. We found it is easiest if you wait until she is sleeping and then put them on there. Mommy took the kids here and said there wasn't much to it. She made an appointment to go back in 2 weeks and he'll pull out the "caste" that she has in the tear passage ways to the nose, no more surgery needed.
As you can see it isn't stopping her from doing what she always does.
